Supporting Dental Care Providers During COVID-19

What if we could rapidly launch a platform to help dentists and
orthodontist serve their patients remotely?

Launching a Teledentistry App in Two Weeks

Our client provides doctor-directed at-home clear teeth aligners and plans for patients through its network of 250+ licensed dentists and orthodontists. Their clear aligners gradually shift teeth to the desired position without office visits and at a fraction of the cost and time of traditional braces.

Strategic Insight

While our client’s products are used directly by the consumer at home, they must still maintain a treatment plan through a dental provider.

In order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the American Dental Association urged dental care providers nationwide to limit in-person appointments to emergency. However, many providers did not have the infrastructure in place to move non-emergency appointments to a teledentistry format.

Our client wanted to help these providers serve their patients remotely by building and providing an application that would enable providers to remotely meet with their patients securely on any device. Twilio led initial exploratory meetings with the client and, based on our trusted partnership and expertise, asked us to perform the work.

Enabling Teledentistry with Twilio

We used Twilio Video to rapidly build an application that allows our client’s provider dentists and orthodontists to securely video conference 1:1 with their patients. Twilio Video enables high quality video on all devices including mobile phones. When a provider navigates to our client’s home page there is a link to the teledentistry app. The provider enters in basic information about their practice and receives access to the app at no cost.

Our Twilio platform expertise and our remote-ready project delivery allowed us to quickly and effectively provide a solution to help dental providers serve patients and keep the country safe.
