Tapping Into Day-of Travel Revenue Opportunities

The airline had already begun the research process to understand target audiences and made decisions on design. It needed a partner with deep industry knowledge and expertise in mobile product development and digital strategy to build an app capable of managing all aspects of day-of travel. The airline engaged Perficient, with a key directive to keep the solution affordable and have it ready to launch in six months.

Demand for a Mobile App Was Taking Off

To meet our client's goals, we proposed a mobile app built on FlutterFlow that would make use of the existing API and infrastructure running the different functions of the airline’s website – ticketing, baggage, logistics – instead of building them from scratch.

To begin, our experts collaborated with internal teams to onboard and leverage the predefined target audiences, user journeys, and design. Once the application development process began, we capitalized on FlutterFlow’s cross-platform framework to rapidly build a mobile app that is compatible with both iOS and Android devices.

After our team built the app, we provided extensive product management support, assisting with app store listings, marketing materials, and readiness checklists. Sky-High Success Within Weeks of Launch

Within three weeks of launch, the new mobile app had surpassed 100,000 downloads – vastly exceeding the airline’s expectation of 80,000 downloads within three months – and more than 18,000 in-app purchases were made.

An analysis of both web and app traffic showed that customers significantly preferred using the mobile app. For checking into flights, the mobile app captured 45% of conversions while the website captured only 15%.
